Wii Full-Size HDMI Mod

Modifying a Nintendo Wii to output over HDMI.

Here is a brief overview of how I modified my Nintendo Wii to output over HDMI.

This mod is made possible by Electron Shepherd's "ElectronAlalog". A board which takes the component out from the wii and turns it into an HDMI signal, similar to a Retrotink. This has the obvious downside of the signal going from Digital, to Analog, and back to Digital, but I decided to go this route as all the digital-to-digital HDMI mods for the Wii are both more expensive, and use Mini-HDMI, which I despise irrationally.

The resulting quality is acceptable -- I had been using a cheap "Wii2HDMI" AdC for awhile, and the Electron Analog is a step above that.

Installation was fairly simple, I removed the existing AV port to make room for the board, which just about fit, only needing to remove a leg from the CPU heatsink. The port was then glued in place, with a 3d-printed cover over the new HDMI port.

This mod has more trade offs than most that I do, but I believe that this mod is for some people. If you can live with slightly sub-optimal video quality, and require a full-size HDMI port, this mod may be for you.
